Position Overview

The Facilities & Maintenance Assistant plays a vital operational role supporting the overall physical upkeep, safety, appearance, and functionality of the ICR campus and the ICR Discovery Center. 

In this hands-on role, you will work closely under the direction of the Facilities & Maintenance Manager to perform routine preventive maintenance, execute daily work orders, handle minor repairs, and assist with general facility upkeep across campus. Embodying the heart of a servant leader, you will approach every task, big or smallwith humility, initiative, and a commitment to maintaining a facility that reflects the excellence of our ministry and advances our goal of equipping believers for Christ. 

You will move independently throughout the facility to troubleshoot issues, support campus setup for events, and ensure all building systems, exhibit features, and grounds remain in excellent condition. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player with practical trade skills, a strong sense of urgency, and a heart for service. This is a salaried role that includes some schedule flexibility while also requiring occasional evening and weekend work based on campus events and maintenance need and is eligible for overtime pay. 

Responsibilities

• Daily Campus Upkeep: Directly perform routine safety, performance, and aesthetic checks across all campus buildings, exhibition spaces, and grounds to maintain a clean, pristine, and safe environment. 
• Preventive & Corrective Maintenance: Execute regular preventive maintenance tasks and perform timely repairs across basic building components, plumbing fixtures, electrical fixtures, HVAC filters, and exhibit features. 
• Work Order Execution: Respond to work orders and facility requests in a timely manner, prioritizing urgent repairs to ensure minimal disruption to staff, guests, and campus events. 
• Vendor & Event Support: Assist outside service vendors and contractors during campus repairs or installation projects, and assist with physical setup and breakdown for campus and Discovery Center events. 
• Equipment & Tool Stewardship: Ensure all campus tools, maintenance machinery, and equipment are operated safely, properly maintained, and stored securely. 
• Documentation & Safety Standards: Maintain accurate logs of completed tasks and work orders while strictly following local safety procedures, building codes, and environmental standards.
• May perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Requirement

Essential Qualifications

• Faith & Mission Alignment: A written testimony of salvation in Jesus Christ as Lord & Savior and full agreement with ICR's core principles, tenets, and purpose. 
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; relevant trade technical training or certifications are considered a plus. 
• Professional Experience: 1–3 years of practical experience in facility maintenance, commercial building upkeep, or basic construction trades. 
• Technical & Trade Knowledge: Demonstrated working knowledge and practical skill in using general hand/power tools, handling basic electrical and plumbing repairs, and conducting routine building maintenance. 
• Interpersonal & Communication Strengths: A personable, friendly, and hospitable demeanor; not easily offended, proactively pursues solutions, and maintains a servant-hearted, people-focused attitude. 
• Physical & Environmental Demands: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours or 10k steps daily), bend, reach, lift up to 50 lbs, perform physical labor, and safely navigate ladders and building infrastructure. 
• Work Schedule: Full-time position requiring schedule flexibility to support operating hours, event setups, and occasional evening, weekend, or emergency facility needs. 

Working at ICR

As a member of the ICR team, employees are expected to support and advance the ministry's mission by serving in unity with colleagues and participating in the spiritual life of the organization. This includes regular attendance at chapel services, participation in prayer, and a willingness to share one's personal faith with staff, donors, and guests as opportunities arise. Employees are also required to serve a minimum of four hours per month as a ICR Discovery Center docent, engaging guests in meaningful conversations that reinforce the Christian doctrine of young-universe Creationism as expressed in the ministry's Core Principles.

Employees are expected to maintain a modest business-casual appearance consistent with ICR culture and standards. Normal operating hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional schedule flexibility required to meet ministry and operational needs.
