Position Summary

The Marketing & Communications Manager is a full-time role that advances the mission of Harvesters Reaching the Nations by communicating God’s work in South Sudan with excellence, accuracy, and joy. This role presents the ministry through hopeful, consistent, and compelling communications.

The ideal candidate is a committed Christian with strong marketing, creative, and technical skills and a passion for orphan care, discipleship, and ministry in Africa. This person is a highly skilled communicator, pays keen attention to details, is flexible and adaptable, self-motivated, organized, and able to manage competing priorities while collaborating effectively with teams in the United States and South Sudan.

Reports To: Director of Development & US Operations

Location: North-Texas based; primarily work-from-home with some work from The Hope Center in Plano. In-person participation required at staff meetings, board meetings, training, and special events.

Primary Responsibilities

Marketing, Growth & Brand Stewardship 

  • Ensure all ministry branding and communications consistently reflect the vision, values, and mission of the organization across all platforms.
  • Develop and execute communication strategies that increase ministry awareness and donor engagement.
  • Collaborate with the development team—the Director of Development, Development Coordinator, and Sponsorship Coordinator—to support fundraising and sponsorship initiatives, donor communications, special events, and related development goals.
  • Create donor-facing proposals, campaign materials, sponsorship content, and impact reports that support cultivation, solicitation, retention, and stewardship of the ministry’s donors and sponsors.
  • Produce and distribute quarterly ministry newsletters and periodic ministry updates including bi-monthly updates to ministry prayer partners.
  • Manage the ministry's communication calendar and ensure timely execution of marketing initiatives.

Storytelling & Ministry Communications

  • Share compelling stories that communicate practical outcomes, spiritual impact, and God’s work with dignity, accuracy, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Remain closely connected to ministry activities in South Sudan to understand on-the-ground realities and communication needs.
  • Collaborate with South Sudanese media coordinators and ministry leaders to gather accurate stories, statistics, testimonies, photos, videos, prayer requests, updates, and impact reports from the field.

Graphic Design & Content Creation

  • Create professional, visually compelling collateral, including flyers, event materials, annual reports, prayer emails, sponsorship materials, presentations, and digital graphics that reflect the ministry’s brand and communicate hope and impact.
  • Maintain organization of collateral for staff and office use.
  • Utilize AI tools ethically and skillfully to enhance productivity and creative execution while maintaining human oversight, authenticity, and ministry integrity.

Website & Digital Presence

  • Maintain a current, accurate website that supports ministry priorities, storytelling, donor engagement, sponsorship recruitment, and fundraising.
  • Manage digital content libraries including photos, videos, and graphic assets.
  • Oversee HRTN social media presence to ensure accuracy, continuity and brand consistency. 
  • Support social media initiatives via digital communication campaigns.

Technology & Digital Tools 

  • Support the ministry's day-to-day use of digital tools and communication systems.
  • Serve as the internal resource and administrator for Microsoft 365 applications, helping staff effectively use Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, and related tools.
  • Maintain organized digital files, communication platforms, and shared resources.
  • Research and implement practical technology solutions that help the ministry work more effectively.
  • Coordinate with external technical experts or support resources when specialized IT knowledge is required.

Professional Development

  • Stay current in nonprofit marketing, communications, design, fundraising, digital tools, and responsible AI use through relevant training, networking, and professional development.

General Ministry Support

  • Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Development & US Operations, Africa Director of Operations, or Executive Director.

Requirement

Qualifications

Required 

  • Committed Christian with an active faith and a heart for orphan care, discipleship, and ministry in Africa
  • Agreement and acceptance of HRTN’s statement of faith, mission, and vision
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, or a related role
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate spiritual and practical impact with dignity, accuracy, and hope
  • Proficiency in graphic design and publication tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite - InDesign, Canva)
  • Experience managing a website CMS (e.g., WordPress) 
  • Experience managing organizational social media accounts
  • Working knowledge of email marketing platforms (e.g. Constant Contact)
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook), with the ability to train and support other staff
  • Practical experience using AI tools for content and productivity, with sound judgment about authenticity and human oversight

Preferred (but not required)

  • Prior experience with a nonprofit, church, or missions’ organization
  • Experience with child sponsorship programs or sponsor communications
  • Familiarity with donor management/CRM systems (e.g., Bloomerang)
  • Photography and video editing skills
  • Experience managing digital asset libraries and file organization systems
  • Experience working cross-culturally, particularly in Africa or other international ministry contexts
  • Familiarity with web analytics and SEO basics (e.g., Google Analytics, Google Ad Grants)
  • Experience serving as a point person for technology tools or coordinating with outside IT support
  • Willingness to travel domestically or internationally, including to South Sudan.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $60,000 - $70,000 annually, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated ability.
  • Flexible work schedule, including a primarily work-from-home arrangement
  • 16 days of paid time off annually and additional paid holidays
  • Monthly stipend toward the cost of healthcare coverage
